Under Ireland’s Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS 3), farmers can receive a grant covering up to 60% of the cost for installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, with an investment ceiling of €90,000. When it comes to system size limits and the level of grants available, standard farms can install systems up to 30kWp, while pig and poultry farms have a higher limit of 62kWp. Battery storage systems are eligible for support covering up to 60% of the cost, but the capacity of the battery eligible for grant aid is restricted to 50% of the installed solar panel capacity. So if a farmer installs a 10kWp solar PV system, they can only receive grant aid for a battery with a maximum capacity of 5kWh. This limitation ensures that battery storage aligns proportionally with solar energy production, avoiding excessive storage that exceeds the farm’s generation needs.

Applying for TAMS and Solar Home's Support
