Understanding SEAI Commercial Grants

In 2025, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is offering businesses grants of up to €162,600 to support the large-scale installations of solar panels for their business. The purpose of the SEAI business grants are to promote renewable energy adoption among commercial entities, including small businesses and large enterprises. In turn, these SEAI commercial grants will assist the country in the transition to sustainable energy and renewable energy sector goals outlined in the nation’s Climate Action Plan.

Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG) Ireland

The Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme is designed to financially support businesses with the installation of solar PV systems ranging in size from 7kWp – 1,000kWp in size. As this range is so vast (approximately 3 to 2300 panels), it is less helpful to talk about the number of panels where it concerns larger installations, such as would go on the roof of a factory (requiring hundreds or thousands), and more helpful to refer to the solar PV system size.

With the NDMG, businesses can reduce commercial risk from energy price volatility by reducing commercial electricity costs and increasing security of supply, all whilst demonstrating commitment to sustainability. Businesses can claim up to a maximum of €162,600 in VAT-free funding and expect to hit payback (breakeven) in as little as 5 years.

Eligibility Criteria for SEAI Commercial Grants

The specific eligibility requirements for businesses to qualify for the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant are as follows:

  • Own or lease the building where the solar PV system will be installed
  • The building must have been built and occupied before December 31, 2020
  • Have a valid Tax Clearance Certificate
  • Have a metered connection at the property
  • Use an SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen registered company (we are registered)
  • Have not received any other public funding for the same project
  • Have not already claimed the NDMG grant at the property
  • The installation must use newly fitted equipment, and meet the SEAI’s required standards

You can find the full terms and conditions of commercial grants for solar panels on the SEAI‘s Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme page here.
